Subject: Filming on “Halo: Crime Scene Investigator”
To: dutchwest at gmail
Hello, I’ve been with DW close to its beginning on the web, and I’ve always liked your filming however in the past few months you have gotten more professional, which is good and bad. However I was wondering if one of you could list an overview of what you used to get that look? I’m an independent film maker and I always like to know how people come up with their desired effects, obviously I don’t expect a tutorial or a how to, was just wondering, would be awesome if you guys could do this, just maybe list what lighting techniques, camera and other equipment used, brief editing techniques, obviously color corrections right? Just a curious party I guess who loves your guys work :D.
Idk if Sam remembers me but a long time ago I had some conversations with him on your forum, handle and name is Marc. We talked about me wanting to get into film and other shorts and stuff, thought it would be cool if by some miracle he remembered, anyways now I’m sounding like a crazy fan =P, thanks in advance any help you can lend.

Hey Marc,
Sam Reich here, that old Dutch West guy.
Believe it or not, we shoot all of our material on the Nokia E65. It has a 2 MP camera, which is really all you need for shooting web video. To light, we use the headlights of Josh’s dad’s Jeep Grand Cherokee. To edit, we send the footage over to a witch doctor, who’s responsible for most of that high production value look, although he does demand the occasional sacrifice.
A word of advice: don’t tell someone their work is “good and bad” and then ask them to reveal their secrets. Unless of course you want to be our next sacrifice.
